Countless countries worldwide are asking us the same question:
Can you help us?
Syrians have faced extreme persecution and pain since March 2011 when the civil war caused widespread death, destruction and displacement. Even though there are 5.2 million Syrians displaced externally in countries such as Turkiye, Jordan and Lebanon, Syria still holds more than 6.8 million internally displaced people and many have faced further disasters such as the devastating earthquake of February 2023.
In Turkiye, the Turks and Syrians were not spared from the devastating effects of this same earthquake. Millions became instantly displaced and found themselves relying on humanitarian aid in the form of food, water and shelter. This Ramadan, nothing changes. Without adequate access to nutritious meals, the struggle to fast will be paramount instantaneously.
Lebanon is another country housing millions of refugees. A country already facing economic collapse and poverty, they’ve had to deal with an influx of nearly 2 million refugees, almost all of whom depend on aid agencies for survival.
In Palestine, 2.3 million have been persecuted for nearly 17 years, with the majority living on less than $1 a day. There are more than 800,000 children facing hunger, many times going days without a nutritious meal.
Then there are those in Yemen who have been starving for more than a decade, housing millions of malnourished children and pregnant women. Not far away in Afghanistan and Pakistan are millions who have faced natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods; both of which caused mass suffering and hunger. And in many countries in Africa, countless people live in poverty, many of them in extreme poverty.
